What does it take to be a Realtor in Michigan? You must be a minimum of 18 years of age, take a state-approved 40 clock-hour Real Estate Fundamentals Class. Upon completion of the class, you must successfully pass the Real Estate Saleperson's Examination. Once notified that a passing score was achieved, you will receive the License form; this must be completed and mailed with the required fee and employing Broker's signature. Real estate salespersons in Michigan must always work under the sponsorship of an employing Broker, who will hold your license, and through whom all transactions and funds must be conducted or deposited/disbursed.

Where do I take classes? We have a relationship with many excellent Real Estate Education Schools certified wit the State of Michigan, and can direct you to one near your home or job. The Continuing Education (C.E.) required by the State of Michigan each year, is held at various locations, and our Company usually sponsors opportunities to earn C.E. credits. Additionally, at CENTURY 21 Travis & Associates, we offer all new agents an extensive program of classes at our office, to teach the "day-to-day" skills to conduct your real estate. Finally, our Management Team provides individual attention whenever an agent 'new or experienced ' has questions or concerns, to help all of our agents achieve the greatest success possible.

What characteristics are needed for a successful real estate career?  You need to be a self-starter, success-motivated, able to manage your time, energy and resources. Although supervised by an employing Broker, you will be ' for insurance, tax, and liability purposes ' an independent contractor. Skills in communication (both oral and written) are very critical, as well as attention to details, understanding legal issues related to real estate, and some marketing skills or creativity.

What kind of costs and earnings can I expect? The basic and minimal costs are for annual membership in the local, state and national Boards of Realtors (required for membership in the two Multi-List Services used in southeast Michigan) and monthly MLS and computer fees. CENTURY 21 Travis & Associates spends a considerable amount on marketing our firm and the properties listed with us, but some of those costs are shared. There are also office fees taken from a portion of commissions earned by agents at closings. Additional materials for marketing yourself and your listed properties can be a small or large part of your working budget, depending on how you choose to spend your personal resources. Many new Realtors borrow items needed, from the office or other experienced agents and we work hard to help you keep expenses down as much as possible in the beginning of your career with us. Your earning potential is up to you ' many highly- successful Realtors earn more than in any other career path they've previously followed, and so can you!
